Hospital Checklist

It's about that time.  Time to get the bags packed and ready to head to the hospital.  If you are a first-time mother, then you may not really know what to pack.  You live and you learn!  So, by this time, I know just what I need to make the hospital stay easy, comfortable, and special.

Hospital Checklist:

1.  Hospital gown.  This is entirely optional.  However, if you plan on taking lots of pictures {who doesn't?!}, then you may want to consider getting one.  You can find lots of cute options online.

2.  Pillow/pillow case.  You also may want to have your own pillow with you.  That said, bring your own pillowcase so it doesn't get confused with the hospital's pillows.  To make it fun, decorate the pillowcase and you can always have it as a keepsake.

2.  Socks/slippers.  These are for your comfort.  Since it's typically ice cold in hospitals, it's nice to have some cozy slippers to keep your toes warm.

3.  Robe.  You'll want to have a robe with you in the hospital.  It'll come in handy while you're strolling down the halls going to visit your new baby.

4.  Comfy clothes.  This one is a no brainer.

5.  Toiletries.  Pack whatever toiletries you would bring with you for a weekend getaway.  You will not want to be without, and trust me, hospital bathrooms have no amenities.

6.  Room spray.  This is not a necessity, of course, but if you're like me, I hate the smell of sterile hospital rooms.  Just make sure you find a baby-friendly fragrance.

7.  Diaper bag.  The hospital will provide pretty much everything you will need for the first few days, but don't hesitate to bring your own diaper bag.

8.  Baby's going home outfit.  You'll be taking lots of pictures and want that first trip home to be special.  Speaking of trip home...

9.  Car seat.

10.  Reading material.  I recommend bringing a book or some of your favorite magazines.  You're going to be anxiously waiting on the baby to arrive.  Reading will help you relax a little and make time pass.

11.  Baby book.  Bring your baby book to document this special time while it's still fresh in your mind.

12.  Thank you cards.  You will most likely receive some flowers and gifts after delivery.  While you have some free time in the hospital, take advantage and write those pesky thank you notes {you've probably written 100 by now}.  You will want to spend all your time with your baby when you get home.

13.  Hospital playlist.  Music is something that means a lot to me and Jamie.  We have always made playlists for everything, so why not the birth of our child?  This may sound crazy, but I still remember what was playing when Grayson was born.  Music will also help to calm those nerves.  Plus, you will always remember those songs and hold them close to your heart.  We're working on ours now!

14.  Camera/charger.  Need I say more?

15.  Nursing bras.

16.  Nursing pillow.  Great for your back!

17.  Baby blankets.

Bring anything that will help you to relax and enjoy this experience.  Don't stress too much on what to pack- it should be an enjoyable time.  I hope this helps you first-timers out there!
